Not on the table: AGSI+ also keeps a pre-Brexit UK record that has carried no data since 2020. Belarus, Russia, Turkey have storage but do not report it to GIE AGSI+.
What the numbers mean
- Fill is gas in storage as a share of working gas volume, the gas a store can hold and send back out. AGSI+ publishes one figure per country per gas day, at 19:30 CET the following day, and this page reads it every six hours.
- vs last year compares today's fill with the fill on the same gas day a year ago. vs 5-year average compares it with the mean fill on this gas day over the previous five years. Both are in percentage points.
- 7 days is the change in fill since the gas day a week earlier. A positive number means the country is still injecting.
- Every reading passes the plausibility screen the storage tracker uses. A refused or missing reading is shown as no data, never replaced with an older figure. The same readings feed Days of Gas, which turns them into how long storage would last.

Which EU country has the most gas storage?
Germany, with 247 TWh of working gas volume on gas day 22 September 2026, 22% of the EU's 1,132 TWh. Italy is second with 203 TWh and the Netherlands third with 144 TWh. Outside the EU, Ukraine's storage is larger still, at 321 TWh. Working gas volume is the gas a store can hold and send back out, as reported to GIE AGSI+.
Which country's gas storage is fullest right now?
On gas day 22 September 2026 the fullest was Poland at 98.8%, followed by Portugal (93.9%) and Italy (86.0%). The emptiest was the United Kingdom at 28.6%. EU storage as a whole was 70.2% full (795 TWh), 11.8 points below the same day last year and 15.7 points below its five-year average. A small store fills and empties faster than a large one, so the fullest store is not the one holding the most gas.
How much gas storage does Germany have?
Germany has 247 TWh of working gas volume, the most of any EU country. On gas day 22 September 2026 it held 141 TWh, 57.0% full, 19.7 points below the same day last year and 27.6 points below its five-year average. Germany, site by site
Does the UK have gas storage?
Yes. On gas day 22 September 2026 Great Britain's nine storage sites held 10.1 TWh, 28.6% of their 35.5 TWh capacity, 3.8 points below the same day last year and 25.0 points below its five-year average. That figure is measured, from National Gas Transmission, and the capacity includes Rough, the largest site. British capacity has grown as Rough returned to service, so the five-year comparison uses only the 3 years with today's capacity. GIE AGSI+ carries only an estimate for the UK, over about 29% of that storage, so this page uses the measured series instead.
